Arrival in Manila!

What began saturday night as Steve only has become a strong team of 6. By dinner time on Sunday night (yesterday), Steve (from Missouri, by way of Sacramento), George (from Minneapolis, by way of Denver), Tarrah (from Boston by way of Los Angeles), Lilian, May Yen, and Puteh (all from Singapore) had all arrived at the hotel. We went out as a team for Chinese food right by the Monumento traffic circle. It is a very busy section of Caloocan City, with lots of shopping and hustle and bustle. We can't wait for the rest of our team to arrive, still waiting on 3 more to complete our group.

George and Tarrah started out the day on a little bit of an adventure (see next post) and then met up with Steve for a little shopping action. George struggled to find a good deal on a phone, and Tarrah tried to find mousse for her curly hair (which proved unsuccessful). Steve had a heck of a time finding a knife to make peanut butter sandwiches (you know, in case of emergency), but Monday morning brought success in that mission. Everything here is so inexpensive! A watch for 150 pesos (about $3), an (expensive) pair of flip flops for 180 pesos, wow!

George taught Steve and Tarrah all about Jeepneys, which are everywhere (and look very fun), and shared stories about Habitat in Cambodia, where the tuktuks are the chosen transit. And the Singaporean girls were asked lots of questions about their lives in Singapore from the inquisitive Americans. Of course, a 4 hour plane ride is much different than the trip from the states. Anyway, It was an early night, and everyone is gearing up for a great first day tomorrow!
